APTA National Championships - Requirements & Guideleines

  1. The location and dates of all National Championships will be coordinated with and approved by the APTA Board of Directors.

  2. All National Championship entry forms will be coordinated with and approved by the APTA Office, and on-line applications will be handled through the APTA Office.

  3. The entry fee, determined by the Tournament Committee, shall be approved by the APTA.

  4. The deadline for National Championship entry forms should be no more than three weeks prior to the event. Every effort should be made to accommodate as many pairs as possible.

  5. The use of the APTA logo is mandatory on any and all material used in connection with the tournament. A banner, which will be provided by the APTA, must be displayed prominently.

  6. All National Championships must be run in strict accordance with the Official Rules of Platform Tennis as set forth by the APTA.

  7. A draw committee, made up of APTA Directors, will conduct the draws for all Open National Championships out of the APTA Office approximately one week prior to the events.

  8. Draws for Senior events will be conducted by a committee with at least one senior representative from the Board of Directors and with oversight of the appropriate Men's or Women's Chairperson.

  9. APTA MEMBERSHIP: FULL MEMBERSHIP IS A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MUST BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. No entry can be accepted into the draw unless a current APTA membership number (for each member of a team) is present on the tournament application.

  10. Full entry list (including first names) should be sent to the APTA Office for confirmation of membership status before the draw is made.

  11. Draws will be posted on-line no later than 2 days prior to the start of the event.

  12. Each participant in your event must be guaranteed three matches (weather permitting); main, consolation and reprieve(s); mutual consent for men's and women's 65+, 70+ for more than 3 matches per day.

  13. A tournament referee shall be appointed by the Tournament Committee and be approved by the APTA National Tournament Chairman (men's/women's/ seniors'/juniors') to be responsible for all on-site decisions regarding play, conduct, etc. A qualified umpire should be used for all Nationals finals, and for the semifinals for all events with draws larger than 32.

  14. Release Waiver: APTA members have already consented to the release as part of their membership agreement.

  15. Hospitality: We strongly urge you to make a hospitality committee an integral part of your tournament. Non-commercial housing should be made available to out-of-town participants when possible. Lunch for all participants on the first day will be included in the entry fee. Lunch for remaining participants on succeeding days should be incorporated in the entry fee.

  16. Ball: The ball must be approved by the APTA and designated on the entry form

  17. Prizes: The APTA will provide, at no cost to the National Committee, medals to be awarded the champions and finalists of the main event. Additional prizes for champions and finalists, along with prizes for all other categories, to be determined by the local tournament committee.

  18. Post-event reporting: Immediately following the event please send to the APTA Office:
    1. A completed copy of the entire draw including consolation and reprieves with scores. Full names of participants are important.
    2. In cases where a Presidents' Cup is associated with the event, a complete wrap-up with results as well as a list of all participants.
    3. APTA banner (if applicable)

  19. The minimum number of entrants for a tournament to qualify as a National Championship is four (4).
